日本で留学しているJohnは，岡山に住むAkiraがアメリカにいた頃の友達です。東京に住んで2ヶ月が経ち，Johnは，京都に旅行をすることになったという内容の手紙をAkiraに出しました。AkiraはJohnに返事を出そうと思っています。手紙が，Johの東京での生活の様子を尋ねる文章から始まり，さらに下の4つの項目をすべて含むように，解答欄15行におさまる程度で書きなさい。

・Akiraは京都に中学の修学旅行で行ったことがあること。
・歴史的な建物があること。
・きれいな自然も楽しめること。
・事前にインターネットで情報を得ておくとよいということ。

A dog stole a big slice of meat and was running home with the piece in her mouth when she came to a footbridge across a river. It was there that she happened to look down and see her own reflection in the water. Thinking it was another dog carrying what looked like an even larger piece of meat, she decided she must have that piece, too. But when she opened her mouth to snatch it away, she dropped her own slice of meat in the river and ended up with nothing at all.

Dear Helpful Advice,

My close friend and classmate will graduate from high school next year. His parents insist that he should study at university, but he has no interest in going right now. He wants to take a break for a couple of years and see the world before he goes on to college. He doesn’t know what to do and is asking me for advice. What should I tell him?

次の英文は、日本文化の特徴の一つとされているaimai（あいまい）に関するものです。aimaiで誤解が生じる具体例をあげて、あなたの考えを12行程度の英語で書きなさい。

　In Japan, in situations where people have different opinions or do not wish to accept offers, they use many indirect expressions, such as chotto…, demo…, and so on. Nobody expects to be refused directly, even if the other person really disagrees. People take care to keep a friendly atmosphere or social situation and express themselves indirectly; as a result, ambiguity, or aimai, occurs.

　However, ambiguity can also cause confusion, not only in international communication but also among the Japanese themselves.

There are many poor people in the world who lack the money to buy food, clothing, shelter, and medicine. If you were to donate $100 to a charity such as Oxfam, then some of these people would get what they desperately need and you would thereby increase happiness. But if you were to donate all of your spare income each month, then even more people would get what they desperately need and you would produce even more happiness. Should you donate all of your spare income to charities such as Oxfam? Would it be wrong not to do so?
